Film

Staithes Cinema Club has just announced the April film.

Polite Society

27th April at St Peter's Centre, Church St, Staithes TS13 5DB

The poster is classic Bollywood, but Polite Society is a British comedy thriller which sees martial arts enthusiast and would-be stunt woman Ria deploy her action skills in an attempt to save sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.

Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian said: 'Polite Society is a pointed satire of the marriage market'. Nida Manzoor's debut delivers 'serious levels of goof, wack and zane for a feelgood action comedy with a very incorrect adjective in the title.' You can read the full review here, and there are more details below.

Tickets remain just £5. Get them online, or on the door at St Peter's Centre. Plus there will be popcorn and you can BYO drink - alongside our regular refreshments. An even better reason to join us at Staithes Cinema Club.

Coming next at Staithes Village Hall on 18th May: The Old Oak, Ken Loach's most recent film. The Old Oak is the last pub standing in a north east village that's never been the same since the mining industry ended. The pub's future is in the balance... when a bunch of Syrian refugees arrive.
